Seattle-Area and National Chain Restaurants Helpful for Food AllergiesIf you have food allergies you can still enjoy dining out. Of particular note, Mexican, Thai, and Vietnamese restaurants usually have many offerings on the menu that will allow you to avoid your food allergy, and you can have them simply leave things (such as the cheese on many Mexican foods) off a particular dish to increase your options . should check out the web site of the The following restaurants provide service or menu options to help you with your food allergy. Some even specialize in gluten, dairy, and/or egg free offerings: Arby's ® Believe it or not, Arby's ®, famous for fast food, has published ingredients lists and allergen information on their website. The allergen page is fairly basic, listing only major allergens, but it may be just enough for you. The allergen page is HERE. The complete list of ingredients is in two major parts: The first part lists which foods are in each food, for example, a hamburger has a bun, paddy, lettuce, etc. The lower section (you have to scroll way down) has the actual ingredients (flour, yeast, etc.). Check it out HERE. It is 19 pages long, but you should be able to determine what you can eat at Arby's ® . Bamboo Garden Here is a kosher, vegan (dairy and egg free) Chinese restaurant that has been successful for years in the same location. Dine on Buddha’s Basket (vegetables in a fried taro root cup), noodle dishes and hot peanut pudding. Bamboo helps you escape from gray skies while you dine. Bambuza A Vietnamese/Thai bistro with many dairy and egg free dishes. Caution: most dishes do contain wheat. Blackbird Bakery Often has some gluten free offerings available. Stop in the next time you take the ferry that way. Blue C Sushi Blue C Sushi has received several recommendations from our patients. They have two locations, one in Fremont and one in the University Village. Be sure to ask about gluten-free soy sauce, etc. Bonefish Grill The Bonefish Grill (same owners as Outback Steakhouse) has a gluten free menu, available upon request (or click here). On your own or with the help of a friendly server, you can choose the fish you want, have it prepared the way you want it, with the side dishes you want to go along. Burger King ® As the fast food restaurants strive to respond to the public demand for more information they are getting better at providing at least some of the info that those with allergies need. Burger King ® is yet another that is now providing a limited set of information on some common allergens. Their allergen page (Click Here) has information on which menu items contain: egg, fish, milk, peanuts, shellfish, soy, soy lecithin, tree nuts, and/or wheat. So if you aren't allergic to anything not on this list, this form will help you determine what you can eat at Burger King ® .
Café Flora
Café Flora is known for its vegetarian food. Menus are diverse, international in scope, and include non-dairy and gluten-free options. Carmelita
Carmelita is a vegetarian restaurant. They do also have vegan choices and vegan options on their menu. They do try their best to accommodate special requests which often include gluten-free options. They do not specifically list gluten-free choices on the menu, however if a guest arrives and informs them of their specific allergies, they do guide them toward items on the menu that meet their dietary requirements. If they can modify an item on our menu they will do that as well. If they have 24 hours notice, they can prepare something special for the guest. Unfortunately they cannot provide a specially prepared dish without the 24 hour notice. Chili's Chili's is a national chain of restaurants offering Texas-based versions of burgers, chili, and tacos, etc. They provide specific allergen information on their website here. Cinnamon Works Specialty Bakery They have "regular" items as well as wheat-free (not necessarily gluten free) and vegan (dairy- and egg-free) baked goods. Their vegan cookies (snickerdoodle, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin), cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, and maple bars are reported to be really good - and huge! Dairy Queen ® or 'DQ' ® Dairy Queen ® , or as it is now commonly known, DQ ® , has detailed information on ingredients, a handy chart of which common allergens can be found in which foods, and a gluten free report as well. The ingredient lists (including nutritional info) and allergy tables are available HERE. They also have a tool called the nutrition calculator that lets you see the complete ingredient list for a group of foods that you choose from their complete menu. There is also a search option that will return all foods that don't contain the words you include in their ingredients list. So if you search for 'eggs' with the 'does not include' option, you get a list of the foods that don't have eggs in the ingredient list. It is always a good idea to double check when you run such a search. The link to that tool is on this page. Also, each restaurant receives a laminated copy of their allergy information brochure that should b e available upon request to use while in the store.
Da Vinci Bakery and Cafe Kaili is back. Despair no more. Kaili, the magic gluten-free chef and owner of the former Kaili's Kitchen has resurfaced in Seattle. Her new gluten-free bakery and cafe opened April 12th, 2006. A complete menu of gluten-free breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as scrumptious baked goods. Mon-Fri 6AM-7PM; Sat 7AM-7PM; Sun 7AM-3PM. Emory's on Silver Lake Emory's on Silver Lake is also called Emory's Lake House. They accept reservations. If you want the gluten-free menu, all you have to do is ask. They can also share the ingredient lists for all their dishes with you.
Flying Apron Organic Bakery Re-Located from their U-District and Elliot Bay locations as of September 15th, 2007, Flying Apron is now in Fremont. They have gluten-free products as well as dairy-free and egg-free products. Their gluten, dairy, and egg-free chocolates are excellent. Impromptu Wine Bar Cafe Impromptu Wine Bar Cafe has a wide selection of gluten-free menu items on their dinner menu. Items marked are gluten free. The Joint - Pizzeria and Deli The Joint is a great little pizzeria in Victoria. They have an excellent gluten-free pizza crust (rice based) and lots of options that are egg and dairy free. The other crust options are both organic - whole wheat or white. The italian sausage is made with pork (beef-free) and very tasty. Be aware that the soy cheese contains casein. They make their own completely diary-free "scheese" that contains nutritional yeast. They also have some excellent vegan cookies and bars. During our visit we found the staff to be friendly and helpful, but not quite perfect. This reviewer was told that the ownership is working hard to train the employees and ensure correct information on ingredients is available. They hope to have an ingredients list on their website soon. Lombardi’s Neighborhood Italian Lombardi’s has a gluten free menu and an ingredient list. Modern Italian cuisine. Fresh local ingredients. A stellar wine cellar.
Maggiano's Little Italy This nation-wide chain doesn't offer a gluten free menu, however, according to their 'Guest Relations' Dept.: "At this time we are unable to provide a listing of our menu items that contain ingredients excluded from a gluten-free diet. Please advise your server of your dietary restrictions and ask to speak directly with a chef. Our chef will be happy to visit your table and then suggest and prepare a meal that will meet your dietary requirements. This big chain has restaurants all over the country and now many of them have a gluten-free pasta option. It helps to call ahead and let them know because their normal meals are factory style for speed and it takes time to whip up a pot of gluten free pasta. The sauce choices are also reportedly limited, but at least you can join your family or friends when they go. A steakhouse with an Australian theme. (Same owners as Bonefish Grill). They have many gluten free items identified on the menu (see the gluten-free menu). Several restaurants in the Seattle area, and many across the nation. They also have nutritional info on their website (nutritional page) and are very accommodating of requests to modify a dish to meet your needs.
Panda Express ® With locations all over, often in food courts or even inside grocery stores, Panda Express ® is one of the most common fast food chains specializing in chinese food. Like some of the other large chains, they have posted some limited information about allergens on their website. Click Here for their allergy page (PDF format). The page has information on which dishes include wheat, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shell fish, eggs, and/or milk. Milk shows up in some dishes you wouldn't suspect, like Veggie Egg rolls (which apparently don't contain egg!?!) so be careful!
Pizza Works
This established pizza restaurant, near Bastyr University, has been serving regular, vegetarian, and vegan options in this location for about 13 years. The current ownership took over in 2005 and has added gluten-free options. They kindly provide their ingredient list on the web at this link or click on 'Ingredients' from the home page. Note: They now have 2 soy cheeses, one contains casein, and the other is truly dairy free.
P.F. Chang's Located in the Bellevue Square shopping center. They offer an extensive menu of gluten-free Chinese cuisine.
Qdoba Mexican Grill This national mexican-style chain with about 15 locations in the greater Seattle area has some information that might be helpful regarding common allergens. It is notable that their chicken contains milk. The allergy information is on this page. There are links to more information on that page, as well. Romano's Macaroni Grill Romano's Macaroni Grill is an Italian-style chain with a location in Lynnwood. They provide a page of information that may be helpful to those with food allergies. They have significant disclaimers, so beware of cross contamination. The allergy page is at the bottom of this page. Red Robin To get a copy of their gluten free menu, you will need to email them at relations@redrobin.com. Red Robin will customize orders to meet dietary needs. Salad Dressings and mayo do contain vinegar in the ingredients list. The vinegar is not malt vinegar. The Red Robin Seasoning is sprinkled on the beef patty after cooking. The Seasoning does not contain wheat, barley, oat or rye glutens. It may contain naturally occurring glutamates. The beef patty can be ordered without Red Robin Seasoning. Please inform your server if you desire no seasoning. Corn strips and Fries may be fried in a common fryer. They ask that you request the gluten free menu by email and bring it with you inform your server so that he/she can help meet your dietary needs.
Restaurant Zoe Restaurant Zoe is an urban bistro in Belltown that serves innovative american-style dishes. All of the staff from waiters to hosts to manager to chef are trained to ensure that your allergy needs are met. They generally have several gluten-free options on the menu and can make your dish for you to meet your specifications.
Señor Moose Cafe Señor Moose Cafe is a highly recommended primarily Mexican and breakfast restaurant in Ballard. Owner Kathleen is providing authentic mexican recipes that are gluten-free. Now the website is up and the menu is available here. Be advised, some of the non-mexican foods contain wheat, but most are obvious (like pancakes).
Sunny Valley Wheat Free Sunny Valley Wheat Free is a 100% dedicated wheat & gluten-free bakery. They manufacture a large assortment of fresh baked products (breads, snacks & sweets), as well as frozen convenience meals (including pizzas, pastas, pot pies and more). All products are made on site. Ten Mercer Ten Mercer is an upscale restaurant in lower Queen Anne popular for dinner and drinks before or after a show at Seattle Center. If they are notified by the guest when making a reservation they can accommodate most dietary needs. They do have a gluten free menu on file and offer it by request. Watercress Asian Bistro Watercress Asian Bisto is a stylish Redmond establishment serving pan-asian cuisine where entrees are prepared fresh. This allows them to accommodate most requests for special preparation to eliminate allergen foods. They have gluten-free soy sauce as well. Most of the dishes can be prepared gluten free. Be sure to explain your needs to your server. According to proprietor Lily Lei, the kitchen will be happy to prepare your meal to meet your needs. Wendy's ® Wendy's ® has really stepped up with a website nutrition page that includes a detailed ingredients list for all their menu items. You have to select the item from a list, but the information is very complete. Check it out HERE. And check out their page for gluten-free items HERE. Wild Ginger Wild ginger is offers a gourmet asian cuisine restaurant that offers a plethora of vegan (dairy and egg free) options. It shouldn’t be difficult to avoid gluten either. One of the most popular restaurants in the city, Wild Ginger features Asian Fusion and a waiting list that can be days long. Spices, sauces and flavors you didn't know exist keep you coming back for more.
Z'Tehas Southwest Grill
Z'Tehas Southwest Grill is a great Mexican restaurant and has a gluten-free menu. Located on the third floor of Bellevue Square's Lodge, between Crate & Barrel and Border's Books. Zao Noodle Bar A great place to get tasty Asian food with rice noodles and fresh vegetables. A good place for the whole family, including kids. Note that most dishes do contain soy sauce that contains wheat, so be sure to ask for what you want.
